“I paint portraits, still lifes and landscapes. Each genre is painted with the same importance placed on composition, light, color and line and yet I have different goals in mind depending on my subject matter.
Portraiture continues to be my strongest interest. I search for what is unique about each face and individual personality. I try to be sensitive to moods and expressions.
My still lifes are about creating a harmony of objects, color and composition. As for landscapes, I paint more landscape studies than “finished” landscapes, because I dislike tight renderings of the nature. Because landscapes don’t require the accuracy that is necessary in, say, achieving a person’s likeness, I take a more impressionistic approach when I paint outdoors and will use loose strokes of vibrant hues to compose an image.”
